I'm playing the NieR:Automata game as this anime airs and it really helps me remember the events lol. But I do gotta say, apart from them going to the kingdom, seeing a baby king, and fighting a Yorha traitor, the rest isn't in the game at all. Pascal didn't go with us to the kingdom, at least in ending E.

Perhaps the gamer that's controlling the anime/game is playing all the side quests first.

I can tell without playing Pascal scenes are mostly anime only, games don't usually center a lot on secondary characters, I'll most likely play it as well when I have money to buy it lol

Its weird that they skipped grun and engels and went straight into a2 introduction. I for one was looking forward to Grun fight.
Though i can forgive no engels fight animated because of A2 getting chest buff(in game she was flatter).

Grun fight comes after A2 though, they go to forest first and flooded city after. I'm 100% sure that's the case since 9s gets lost after they defeat Grun

as I remember the fight that came after this was the flooded city one, it seems like they're fitting in chapter 1 (routes A/B) in the first 12 episodes so yea it's likely they'll go to flooded city soon

It's a callback to multiple parts of the first game. I'd also say yes if they do a specific side quest. They gave a voice to "the odd round ball with a creepy smile" in the ending with Pascal, but I doubt they will show his quest due to limited screen time. I wouldn't look up "the ball's" story either as that could heavily spoil a major plot twist that leads to other twists and character developments. The same goes for the first game as their plots are loosely interconnected. :)
